Pope Francis in Papua New Guinea: A Mission of Faith, Unity, and Outreach | Day 2

On September 8, 2024 the second day of his visit to Papua New Guinea, Pope Francis met with Prime Minister James Marape at the Apostolic Nunciature.

Later, in Port Moresby, the Pope celebrated Holy Mass at John Guise Stadium, addressing a large gathering of the faithful where he urges the people of Papua New Guinea to open their hearts to God, reject fear, and build a more united society.

In his homily, he emphasized the profound connection between those on the peripheries of society, God, and the wider community.

Following the Mass, Pope Francis departed from Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby, heading to Vanimo Airport.

Upon arrival, he visited Holy Cross Cathedral, where he met with the Catholics of the Diocese of Vanimo. During his address, he encouraged all Catholics to embody missionary spirit in their daily lives by continuing to spread the beauty of the Gospel and love within their communities.

Continuing his journey, Pope Francis visited the hamlet of Baro, where he met with missionaries and religious sisters from the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE) at the Holy Trinity Parish Humanistic School encouraging them to continue their mission with courage, presence, and hope for growth.
